Learning and Development Support Scheme

The new Learning and Development Support Scheme

The Department of Health and Social Care has recently published a new guidance document on the funding available for learning and development for the adult social care workforce. This new fund is called the Learning and Development Support Scheme and the guidance is available on GOV.UK here: Learning and Development Support Scheme for the adult social care workforce: a guide for employers – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

The Learning and Development Support Scheme is administered via a new digital online claims service that allows adult social care employers to claim funding for certain training courses and qualifications on behalf of eligible care staff. Funding is available for eligible courses and qualifications that have been both paid for and started between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025 (inclusive).

The new guidance document provides details about the funding, including what learning and development is eligible for reimbursement.

In order to manage the roll-out sensibly, for the first few months access to the service will be via invite only but providers can complete an expression of interest form to be onboarded onto the new system. The form can be accessed here: Adult Social Care Development Support Scheme – Private Beta Onboarding (snapsurveys.com)

The Department of Health and Social Care has recently launched the Adult Social Care Learning and Development Support Scheme (LDSS). Eligible adult care employers can claim funding for certain training courses and qualifications on behalf of eligible care staff.

On Thursday 28th November, we’ll be holding a webinar to provide adult social care employers with essential information on how to claim funding for staff training from the LDSS. This webinar will be hosted by Skills for Care.

Colleagues from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) will share the practicalities of accessing the LDSS, including:

  • the eligibility criteria for being able to make claims through the scheme
  • how the funding can be used, including the training courses and qualifications within the scope of the scheme
  • details on how adult social care employers can access the fund to make a claim.

Attendees will have the chance to watch a demonstration and get acquainted with the new online claims service, run by NHS Business Services Authority.

Gareth Young, Deputy Director for Adult Social Care Workforce Reform at DHSC will join to discuss why this scheme is important and how it fits with DHSC’s wider priorities.
